I. Introduction

Epoxy-based acrylic matting resins, first introduced by international manufacturers like Estren's EP570 and Cint's 700, were initially used in outdoor matte coatings. These formulations deliver ultra-low gloss, excellent leveling properties, and superior weather resistance, effectively meeting clients 'requirements for outdoor matte finishes. With the continuous advancement of powder coatings technology, domestic additive manufacturers have developed corresponding epoxy-based acrylic matting resins. Wuhan Yincai's G570 and G570A stand out as prime examples of this innovation.

G600 acrylic matte resin boasts excellent skin feel, high contact angle, and superior weather resistance, making it suitable for applications in aluminum panels, aluminum profiles, metal bonding powder, anti-theft doors, home appliances, bicycles, fitness equipment, and other fields. The powder processed with G600 acrylic matte resin maintains consistent gloss during baking at 180℃ to 210℃, while showing only about 1% fluctuation in gloss when baked at room temperature in cold ovens. This demonstrates G600's excellent baking stability, making it ideal for thick work-pieces that are highly sensitive to baking temperatures or for ovens with significant temperature fluctuations.

 

II. THE EXPERIMENTAL PART

2.1 Experimental equipment

Experimental extruder-Yantai Yuanfeng, experimental grinder-Yantai Jiecheng, Wagara spray gun, standard contact Angle tester, wear tester, thickness meter, gloss meter, automatic pencil hardness tester, etc.

2.2 Experimental process parameters

Before extrusion, the raw material is crushed and mixed uniformly. Extruder parameters: Zone Ⅰ temperature 100℃, Zone Ⅱ temperature 110℃, Main machine speed 45Hz, feeding 15Hz. Powder particle size D50: about 32um is ideal, coating thickness about 70um is ideal.

 

2.3 Experimental raw materials

Polyester products include: Guanghua GH3327, Shenjian 4214, Qingtian 3309, Zhengjie 9033, Yuanrun 9019, Fenglin 2006, Tiansong 2705, Zhongfa 9031, Xiangrong 9068X, Anshan Runde TGIC, Yincai Leveling agent L88, Anxiang L307, Barium Sulfate 44-HB, Qingtian NH7805, and Wuhan Yincai G600 Acrylic Resin.

 Note

G600 is a self-linking internal balanced acrylic matting resin, which can be regarded as a neutral resin, accounting in the resin portion. In the formula, outdoor polyester and TGIC remain unchanged in normal proportion.

The combination of polyester with low viscosity and slow reaction speed and G600 has a better effect, the matting effect is better than the conventional polyester, and the leveling is better than the polyester with high viscosity.

The use of 1% ~ 3% low hydroxyl polyester in the formula is beneficial to a smoother and finer surface, and need to use calcium-free matting barium and no need brightening agent.

For powder coating to achieve hydrophobic and oleophobic properties, a higher contact angle is preferred.

A. Contact Angle> 90 ° Hydrophobic, oleophobic (oil droplets tend not to unfold)

B. The larger the contact angle (> 150 °), the more superhydrophobic, oil repellent and oil droplet self-cleaning.

C. Contact Angle <90 ° Hydrophobic, hydrophilic (the oil droplet is expanded and wets the surface)

D. As can be seen from the above, Wuhan Yincai's G600 acrylic system has good hydrophobic and oil repellent characteristics, which is not available in conventional matting systems.

 

IV. CONCLUSIONS

With the continuous advancement of powder coatings, domestic manufacturers have achieved significant maturity in conventional powder research. Common matting methods include outdoor-based matting systems, two-component matting, and epoxy-acrylic matting resins. The choice of matting method directly determines the performance characteristics of the powder. As living standards improve, market demands for powder coatings have evolved to include enhanced hydrophobicity, oil repellency, weather resistance, wear resistance, and improved skin feel. Wuhan Yincai's newly developed acrylic matting system may effectively address these evolving requirements.

One year after the launch of G600, many powder factories took the lead in using it, all of which are used in the development and production of high-grade powder coatings, such as aluminum plate, high-grade outdoor metal anti-theft door, outdoor metal bonding powder, instead of polyurethane powder, etc. After their strict testing, we have received very high praise.
